On Chris Brown and Rhianna
So, Jim and I are not actually dead and are still floating around in cyberspace somewhere… we’re just snowed under with assignments and thesis research right now.
Wanted to do a short post about Chris Brown having abused Rhianna. Really, the most worrying aspect of this case is how it’s been received (victim blaming, excusing Brown, etc) but I found an interesting reconstruction of what happened according to police findings since the start of the investigation:
Having watched that, please go read Open Letter to Chris Brown over on Diary of a Black Male Feminist. And I think perhaps the crux of the argument is this:
I was doing everything backwards. I was trying to teach women how not to get abused instead of teaching young men not to abuse.
Which is a good point to remember everytime you see government poster campaigns with tips for getting home safely or avoiding being drugged by a man. Or again, everytime you hear someone respond to hearing of domestic abuse with, “What did she do to make him so angry?”

“What did she do to make him so angry?”
Interesting point. Why would anyone find it neccessary to ask questions like that one to begin with…
My own answer:
We live in a society divided into “Winners” and “Losers”.
When the missionaries tried to reach Australian aboriginal children soccer, they found that they took to that game like ducks to water.
Except that- after a week or so, they had changed the rules of the game in such a way that, at the end of the game, both teams had the same number of goals…
They just couldn’t understand why on earth the white man had to turn everything into a race in which ten people ran-
and at the end, there would be one winner and nine losers.
Have you ever noticed the word “Loser” being used as an insult ?
“…You are such a loser…!”
No. Not everyone who loses out in life automatically turns into a rapist, or a child-abuser.
Out of a thousand people, 999 may well fit into the system without any problems. Obligingly gearwheel-shaped, so to speak.
But the last one may turn out to be the ultimate loser:
The proverbial “Sore loser”; someone for whom the concept of losing is so painful that it becomes unbearable.
So-
He simply only enters into competitions which he simply cannot lose. Because the outcome is already a foregone conclusion…
The group of twelve-year-olds in the schoolyard who stuff a seven-year-old into a rubbish bin.
Simply no chance, that seven-year-old.
The child-molester who has sex with a child:
First sexual experience for the child…
And then comes the great moment were the psychological contest begins- the emotional one, the game of wits.
“No one must ever know what YOU have done…filthy little thing that you are…”
Suited to completely and utterly destry a child’s soul.
Easy pickings for anyone wanting to make sure he can’t possibly lose.
The guy who holds a knife to a womans throat and then rapes her.
Must be scared out of her wits. No chance. Loser…
Iraq. The rape of an entire nation. And aren’t they such losers.
And society…?
Well. Who wants to be a loser anyways.
Should have watched themselves, all those losers.
Must be their own fault.
It’s easier to be a bully anyways, no?
If for no other reason than that all the good folks out there would rather accept that someone elses child will be abused-
Someone elses daughter will be raped.
Scapegoats.
The worshippers of Moloch were at least more honest. They did not pretend to be concerned about the children thrown into the fire-pits in his honor.
Let no one demand changes of society which would mean having to give up the prospect of driving an SUV.
People have a right to be able to buy a flat-screen TV reaching from wall to wall.
We wouldn’t want to lose out now, would we…?
If sacrifices are needed for that purpose- well, there are plenty of losers around.
Potential Victims. And Perpetrators.
So, we compete with each other. And accept that not everyone can be a winner…
hey, guys, where are you? at least inform us about your current life.
I really miss your articles and irony.
